SHIMAGATARI BY YASUHIRO OGAWA (Signed)

£40.00

A photo collection by Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ogawa, "Shimagatari (Signed)". Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1968, Ogawa is a freelance photographer. He started taking photographs after being impressed by the photographs of the great photographer Sebastião Salgado, which he happened to come across in the early 1990s. He held his first exhibition, "Uncertain Map," at the Kodak Salon in Ginza in 1999, and won the 37th Taiyo Award the following year. In 2009, he won the Newcomer Award at the Photographic Society of Japan Awards for his photo collection, "Slowly Down the River." This is a collection of works entirely in black and white, composed of images taken during his travels around the islands of Japan. The islands that once enjoyed prosperity have gradually lost their vitality, and the number of uninhabited islands is increasing. People are gone, but the stories remain. This is a touching book that weaves the stories of the islands while listening to the breath of history.
