LANDING WORKSHOP - ELLA THOMSON

£55.00

Toner is excited to present LANDING an exhibition and workshop by photographer and artist Ella Thomson.

Opening at TONER on the 8th of March 4-7pm and running till the 21st of March 2026 -

Ella Thomson is a photographer whose work explores our relationship with land, place and environmental responsibility. Motivated by a growing awareness of how disconnected people in the UK are from nature, her project Landing responds through close, embodied engagement with landscape rather than distant observation.

Challenging traditional landscape photography, Thomson moves away from idealised vistas to focus on touch, movement and lived experience. Influenced by ideas of ecological alienation and ‘eco-haptic’ practices, her work foregrounds intimacy, process and care. Photographs and texts are presented through zines printed on agricultural waste, reinforcing the project’s material and ethical concerns.

Developed through walks and climbs across Silverdale, Malham, Great Langdale and Chwarel Dinorwig, Thomson’s work invites viewers to slow down, look closely and cultivate a more attentive, responsible relationship with the land.

TONER and Ella Thomson alongside a guest artist Amy Webb, invite you to be part of this exhibition creating your own response to landscape as part of a 2 day group workshop at Rinsey Cove, Cornwall on the 7th and 8th of March. (Saturday 7th on location & Sunday 8th at the gallery).

This workshop pulls together the elements of creative play within the land connecting through photography, moving image, drawings, writing, experiences and mapmaking to bring together a collective visual land map in response to Ella’s exhibition within our own landscape here in Cornwall.

Your works will be exhibited along side Ellas Landing Exhibition and a collective zine will be made with copies for all participants.

The workshop will start at TONER on Saturday morning and then on location at RINSEY cove on the south coast, and we have chosen this area for its rich history within geology and tin mining, as well as diverse plants and wildlife.

Times: Saturday 7th 9.30am - 4.30/5pm

Sunday 8th - 10am - 3pm / Exhibition opening 4pm - 7pm

All ages

WORKSHOP AIMS:

-To connect with and know the land better, through engaging more actively with the environment around us.

-Challenge traditional landscape photography and its often static, distant qualities, without any human activity illustrated. The workshop will move slowly through the local landscape, using creative processes to deepen our relationship with and place within it.

-Create an alternative guide and resource from our collective experience in the Rinsey landscape. This will take the form of an immediate and responsive zine, which people are then encouraged to use on their own visits to the area.

The workshop is £55 per person and 10 places are available.
